On September 6th, 1925, the first version of this film based on the book written by Gaston Leroux premiered in New York. Reason enough for the ensemble Elixir d’Anvers to delve into its archives, do the necessary research and scour the Internet for editions or manuscripts of the original score.
A superb film with a live orchestra which makes a surprising musical choice from its vast Art Deco repertoire, interspersed with fragments of the original score and a surprising musical touch from time to time.
La Bourrée Fantasque by Emmanuel Chabrier is at the heart of the film. A work for piano orchestrated in 1924 for small ensemble by Jacques Enoch. Music that fits well with the atmosphere of this film: agitated, hectic and sometimes unpredictable.
I hope you enjoyed the trailer! In addition you can watch here “the chandelier scene” with the music of Emmanuel Chabrier and the Elixir d’Anvers ensemble
Finally, I would like to introduce you to the musical protagonists.
sincerely,
Wim Voet, production manager
