Jean Baptiste Faulx was a horn teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, including composer, conductor, educator and horn player Ernest Maes (°1939). More detailed biographical information about Faulx is unfortunately not available. If you can help us further, we would like to hear from you.
The waltz Ame Rêveuse is on the border of classical music and ‘salon music’. Faulx uses an ABCA structure (the last A is omitted here for the sake of suite structure), with each of the three movements composed with different melodic and formal classical techniques. The modulations are very subtle and efficient. He leans this classical structure towards salon music by filling it in with simple and airy harmonies, carefully colored here and there. Above he uses the typical non-classical color notes that give this genre its individuality and character.
